I finally got to Nashville in August (2018), I've been wanting to get there for many years to have a look at the music scene. I certainly wasn't disappointed with what I saw... there are bands playing in nearly every hotel in the town centre and there's also a lot of venues that promote and host original singer/songwriters.
The 3 most popular writers rooms are Douglas Corner Cafe, the Commodore Grill and the Bluebird Cafe. There are a lot of musicians that frequent these venues so it can be difficult to get a spot at them however I managed to get to play at both the Commodore and Douglas Corner cafe... pretty cool to finally gig in Nashville.
